TASTES OF THE TROPICS  2014


The highly successful ‘Tastes of the Tropics’ program is returning this year at The Elandra Mission Beach.


Led by some of Australia’s  favourite masterchefs, sample and feast on dishes designed  and inspired by the tropical influences of the region.  Gala degustation dinners,  intimate cooking demonstrations, fun-filled cocktail parties led by your celebrity chef are only a few of the exciting experiences in this gourmet weekend getaway.


Following in the footsteps of Curtis Stone, Matt Moran, Luke Mangan and Geoff Lindsay, the spirited and fun Miguel Maestre is to host the inaugural 2014 season of ‘Tastes of the Tropics’.  This culinary adventure set in the beautiful backdrop of The Elandra Mission Beach is a must do event.

Miguel Maestre, a Spaniard who has made Sydney his home, was always destined to cook. Coming from a family who lived and breathed good food and wine in his Spanish homeland,  Miguel’s passion for food and life is infectious.  So it stands to reason that Miguel’s talent incorporates delicious Spanish ingredients and cooking styles into his modern Australian menus.


It is Miguel's co-hosting role on TEN's ‘The Living Room’ that has catapulted him into the world of Celebrity Chef. Other TV credits include ‘Boys Weekend’ with fellow international chefs Gary Mehigan, Adrian Richardson and Manu Fieldel, and ‘Miguel’s Tropical Kitchen’ set in the tropics of North Queensland and based at our very own The Elandra Mission Beach.

Miguel is also the author of two best selling Spanish cookbooks ‘Miguel’s Tapas’ and ‘Spanish Cooking’.


Miguel returns again in May 2014 with our fabulous ‘Tastes of the Tropics’ program.


DAY 1Thursday 15th May 2014

     Guests arrive at The Elandra Mission Beach from 11am, greeted with a refreshing welcome cocktail to set the scene and taste for the weekend. The highlight of the afternoon is a guided tour of the exotic ultra tropics fruit farms in the region, to taste and sample these delicious flavours.

     Dinner is a tropical welcome feast prepared by The Elandra Mission Beach’s Executive Chef Tomasz Kornacki.

DAY 2Friday 16th May 2014

     Following an a la carte breakfast guests can enjoy some free time or take advantage of one of the many additional pamper treatments before lunch, where Miguel hosts his masterclass cooking demonstration. 

     Set in a relaxed and casual setting with a rare opportunity to be up close and watch Miguel in action. Ask questions, take notes or simply sit back and enjoy his amazing skills and selections.

     This evening’s dinner is a meet and greet cocktail party hosted by Miguel on The Elandra Mission Beach pool deck. Enjoy a sumptuous range of signature Miguel canapés including beverages and the chance to mingle and chat with this bigger than life personality.

DAY 3Saturday 17th May 2014

     Following breakfast, today guests will enjoy an a la carte lunch prepared by The Elandra Mission Beach’s own Executive Chef Tomasz Kornacki, as he showcases the best produce in the region.

This evening Miguel hosts his signature Gala Dinner. Set over a minimum of four courses, Miguel will introduce each course personally, outlining his techniques and selected ingredients. All courses are matched with the perfect glass of wine.  A spectacular evening.

DAY 4Sunday 18th May 2014

     Guests enjoy an a la carte breakfast prepared by The Elandra Mission Beach’s Executive Chef Tomasz Kornacki and then enjoy free time to take in for one last time, the beauty of The Elandra Mission Beach and maybe sneak in another fabulous cocktail before heading home.
